Set on top of the Nilachal Hills, it is among the 51 Shakti peethas in India. Kamakhya Devi Temple in Assam, India’s one of the most famous temples, has opened its door for devotees as Ambubachi Mela has ended.
It is believed that during this time, the deity undergoes her annual menstrual cycle. During these four days, the temple doors are shut and a fair is organised on the temple premises. It was after two years that the devotees were allowed to participate in the festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ambubachi Fair is also associated with the fertility cult. Being one of the prime religious fairs in the country, the temple recorded over 2.5 lakh footfalls during the festival in the last three days. The festival was celebrated between June 22 to June 26 this year.
