Tour of Leh Ladakh – Kargil War Memorial

The Tiger Hills are the highest point in the Dras Kargil region and were used by the Pakistan Army to monitor and control the highway connecting Srinagar and Leh. The Kargil War Memorial has been built as a tribute to the heroes of the war with Pakistan in late nineties i.e. May to July 1999. The memorial is located near the national highway from Srinagar to Leh.
The events and incidents of the war with Pakistan and the information of the soldiers who achieved heroism and fought for the motherland without caring for their lives can be found in this memorial.
Caps, t-shirts, coffee mugs, souvenir items can be purchased there. The most important attraction is the architecture which depicts the heroes who achieved valor in the war and the tricolor of India. Seeing which thrill rises on the body and the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country are automatically saluted. Kargil War Memorial is also known as Vijaypath. The monument is built at the foothills of the Tololing Hills. Some parts recovered during the war can be seen near this monument. From here one can see the very high Tiger Hills. Pakistan Army attacked from this Tiger Hills.
Kargil Victory Day is celebrated every year on July 26 at the Kargil War Memorial site. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of India pays homage to the martyrs near the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate, New Delhi. On the 13th anniversary of Kargil victory, a huge 15 kg tricolor was installed at the place to commemorate India’s Kargil victory. Which is still proudly waving and making the enemy aware of his defeat.
There are three important phases of the Kargil war. The first phase was the invasion of Indian territories by Pakistan Army. Second is to surround the territory occupied by the enemy by mobilizing the necessary Indian forces and third and most important is to attack the enemy and choke the enemy forces and recapture our territory. This war was very difficult and it is realized that the Indian army fought in very difficult conditions.
